Living Castle 2023

We have started a cultural project through which we encourage the involvement of locals in cultural and educational activities carried out in the recently rehabilitated castle in the village of Posmuș, Șieu commune. Through the interdisciplinary platform and the open approach of the project, we hope to crystallize a realistic perspective and an answer to our basic question: we have a restored castle in public ownership, how can it become part of the life of the rural communities that surround it?

// Let's give the castle a community,

to bring the community closer to the castle. //

Built in the mid-18th century, Teleki Castle in Posmuș is on the list of historical monuments and has been reopened to the public after an extensive rehabilitation and restoration process. The castle, owned by the Bistrița-Năsăud County Council, is managed by the Bistrița-Năsăud Museum Complex. Being a resource for local development, as well as a space with great tourist potential, we propose that this space also finds its anchor in the cultural needs of the people of Posmuș and Șieu. Through an interdisciplinary approach, we propose that this place become a landmark for the cultural life of the community, a meeting and education space.

It was a week full of activities inside the castle, a week addressed to both the local community and the Bistrita public. A special category were the activities dedicated exclusively to locals: theater, film and dance workshops for children and seniors from Posmuș, every day of the summer school. All locals from Posmuș and the commune, along with event participants and the general public, were invited to discover the magic of the castle in the evening, at film screenings. Presentations and discussions with professionals from the fields of culture, education, public administration and the business environment also took place daily.

We titled the central event of the week Us from Posmuș, Us in Posmuș- it was an event with music, dance and local cuisine, with an artistic moment offered by the village musician, Mr. Ban Kalman, together with Angel Urs & Călin Dumitrean. The dancers of the Măgura Șieului Ensemble were also invited. At the end of the evening, a dance was held that filled the castle courtyard and brought together professional dancers with the uninitiated, people from Posmuș, with people from Șieu, people from Bistrița and guests from other parts of the country. On the last evening of the week, the participants and facilitators of the workshops presented their achievements to the public, after the 5 days of activities, in an event open to the public. The event took the form of a celebration, which was enjoyed by excited parents, curious Castle staff, students participating in the summer school and those coming from Bistrița and the surrounding area.
