Living castle

Let's give the castle a community,  let's bring the community closer to the castle...

Built in the middle of the 18th century, the Teleki castle in Posmusu is surrounded by a field with centuries-old trees, including an oak tree over 500 years old. The ensemble is on the list of historical monuments and was reopened to the public after an extensive rehabilitation and restoration process. The castle is owned by the Bistrița-Năsăud County Council, it is managed by the Bistrița-Năsăud Museum Complex. Being a resource for local development, as well as a space with great tourist potential, we propose that the Teleki Castle complex in Posmus should also find its anchorage in the cultural needs of the people of Posmus and Sieu. Through an interdisciplinary approach, we propose that this place becomes a landmark for the cultural life of the community, a space for meeting and education.

The project's activities are free, they are addressed to all residents of the area and they take place both in the museum space, in the park and around the castle, and in other places in the village. Activities include: summer school, interactive workshops, public debates, residencies, theatrical pedagogy activities and development of community educational strategies.

The Castel Viu cultural project emphasizes the culture-education-environment triad and proposes the search for a balance between the recently acquired tourist dimension of the historical monument and the cultural needs of the local community.

The actions of the project are designed as a process of knowledge and understanding of the cultural needs of the inhabitants of the area, with the encouragement of local trainers to generate cultural activities and to integrate the museum complex into the dynamics and interests of the locals.

Initiated by the Petrus Italus Trust Association - Alliance for the Bistrițean heritage,  the project is carried out with the support of the Bistrița-Năsăud County Council and the Bistrița-Năsăud Museum Complex, the administrator of the castle, in strategic partnership with Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) - Faculty of Theater and Film, French Institute of Romania (Cluj-Napoca) and with the support of Şieu City Hall and Şieu High School.
